The latest version of PcVue software from ARC Informatique has a number of innovations that help to reduce the
cost of running and implementing process control projects. PcVue V.8.2 is the only SCADA tool in the world that is
totally compatible with AutoCAD, as well as enabling the conversion of FactoryLink data. It also supports VMware,
which allows a single PC to manage several virtual machines, where before several dozen machines were needed.
SkySails’ first cargo ship, with a huge computer-controlled kite, was recently flagged off by Eva Luise Koehler, wife of German President Horst Koehler. The ship MV "Beluga SkySails" started its maiden voyage from the city of Bremerhaven, Germany to South & North America (and back) and the SkySails-System with its 1,722 square-foot towing kite has been put into operation successfully. This new technology can tow cargo vessels and superyachts, reducing fuel consumption by 10 to 35% on annual average. SkySails used Maple symbolic mathematical software for engineers to develop its simulation devices.
The ARO Fluid Technologies division of Ingersoll Rand Industrial Technologies has released a new line of portable
air-operated diaphragm pumps specially developed for mining, construction, sump and other operations where a
reliable, de-watering and solids handling pump is an every day requirement. Pit Boss pumps are built to handle the
toughest applications while ensuring high flow rates of up to 821 L/min. Notably, they are equipped with a
diaphragm that lasts up to four times longer than competitive models and with a patented air motor that guarantees
worry-free operation without ice over or stall out.
As well as improving its processes, ZF intends to combat imitations through its policy of marking parts. It set out to find a partner able to handle various marking technologies, with solutions that provide full quality and considerable flexibility for adaptation to manufacturing changes and progressive implementation of internal traceability. The recent order for 4 micro-percussion marking machines raises to 10 the number of machines acquired by ZF from TECHNIFOR for its factory in Friedrichshafen over the last 2 years. The model selected is the TECHNIFOR CN312SM system. Over one-and-a-half million gearbox parts are thus marked each year using TECHNIFOR equipment.
SATEL, a leading manufacturer of radio modems for long range wireless data, today announced SATELLAR Digital
System, a smart radio modem combining TCP/IP-functionalities, a Linux platform for customer specific applications,
and a versatile modular structure. Whereas radio modems have conventionally been used to simply convey data -essentially
replacing a cable in inconvenient locations - SATELLAR can do a lot more. The central unit, one of
SATELLAR´s modular units, is essentially a computer with sufficient processing power and memory to run
sophisticated software applications in addition to the operating system, IP-router, and web configuration server.
Fewer devices are needed on site, which means that costs and complexity may be lowered without compromising
functionality.
Working jointly with Magna Powertrain AG, Arnold Umformtechnik, a leading manufacturer of intelligent fastener solutions, has carried out a comprehensive study aimed at measuring the requirements of thread-forming screws combined with aluminium alloys. The world's leading manufacturer of distributor gear units has proved the capability of this screw profile in the form of Arnold's cost-busting TAPTITE 2000® when used in light-metal gear housings.
